 The Wissahickon Valley Park is dog-friendly! Wissahickon features more than fifty miles of rugged hiking trails winding through dense forests, open meadows, and shaded creeks. Fido can explore the entirety of the Park on a leash no longer than six feet. Wissahickon Valley Park is open from 6am to 11pm, daily.

  • Wissahickon Brewing Company

 Wissahickon Brewing Company is a dog-friendly brewery in Philadelphia, PA. Fido is welcome to join you inside the taproom and on the outdoor patio. Spent grain dog treats are available for purchase and water bowls are readily available in multiple locations. Humans will be delighted with the draft list, which includes 11 beer options as well as strawberry daiquiris, lemonade slushies, pineapple cider, kombucha, and wine. Light snacks such as pickles, chips, pretzels, peanuts, beef jerky, and beer grain granola are available. Rotating food trucks throughout the week. 


  • Philadelphia's Magic Gardens

 Philadelphia's Magic Gardens (PMG) is a visionary art environment, gallery, and community arts center that preserves, interprets, and provides access to Isaiah Zagar's unique mosaic art environment and his public murals. The Magic Gardens site, Zagar's largest artwork, includes a fully-tiled indoor space and a massive outdoor mosaic sculpture garden that spans half a block on Philadelphia's famous South Street. Inside, visitors can view folk art statues, bicycle wheels, colorful glass bottles, Zagar's hand-made tiles, and thousands of glittering mirrors. The installation pays tribute to Zagar's artistic influences, along with community and personal experiences. 


  • Independence National Historical Park

 Independence National Historical Park is dog-friendly in its outdoor areas! While pets are not allowed inside of the buildings on Park grounds, they can take part in outdoor activities such as "Walk in Oney's Footsteps" at the President's House Site, and "Pose Like 'The Signer'" at Signers Garden. Dogs must be on a leash no longer than six feet during the entirety of their visit to Independence National Historical Park. The Park operates daily from 9am to 5pm, though hours for certain facilities vary throughout the year. Most of the grounds are open twenty-four hours a day to pedestrians. Admission is free. 


  • Schuylkill River Dog Park

 This dog park, located along the Schuylkill River, has separate areas for small and large dogs as well as biodegradable poop bags. 


  • Pennypack Trail

 The Pennypack Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Philadelphia! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Pennypack Trail.

  • John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge

 Pets are welcome at John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge. John Heinz is America's first urban refuge and was established to preserve the Tinicum Marsh and to promote environmental education. The Refuge features more than ten miles of trails. Dogs must be cleaned up after and leashed at all times during their visit. John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge is open year-round from sunrise to sunset, free of charge.

  • Cira Green

 Dog-friendly Cira Green is an elevated park in West Philadelphia’s University City District offering outdoor lounge space, entertainment, food, and events. They also have a designated fenced-in dog run for dogs to relieve themselves. Fido must be kept on a 6' or shorter leash and is not allowed on the grass, except for inside the dog run area. The park is open year-round. 


  • Free and Friendly Tours

 This Philly based company will take you and Fido on a tour through the historic and modern features of Philadelphia. Fido can join you on the Colonial Cheesesteak Tour! They are also welcome on the Billy Penn Tour, but pet owners may have to wait outside a few places as we visit inside the Wanamaker Building and Reading Terminal Market. Make sure to tip your guide before you leave!

 Palmer Doggie Depot (PDD) is a dog park located south of the Parks Department’s Shissler Recreation Center, at the intersection of Palmer and Blair Streets. The park is a free neighborhood amenity for all dogs and their owners. Behind the scenes is a dedicated band of volunteers, comprised of Fishtown and East Kensington residents, working together in the interest of making PDD an even better place. Our group is currently applying for non-profit status, which will allow for us to pursue non-profit funding from corporate sponsors who share our vision for a clean, green, community space where dogs can meet and play! All dog park users must observe city laws and ordinances, including: dogs must be licensed and vaccinated; dog waste must be disposed of properly; and/or dogs outside of park must remain on leashes at all times
